Millions of Choices. Directions. Incentives. Responsibilities. Plans. Goals. Hopes. Dreams.

As it turns out, Life is much larger than any single one of us. The mosaic of activity taking place worldwide at any given moment is a testament to the beauty and diversity of our very extended family, our brothers and sisters that follow their dreams day-in and day-out to help the world turn as it continues to do. As our world evolves and matures, we live in an inspiring age where we know more about each other than ever before. We casually travel to each other's native homelands; comfortably share our daily happenings with friends across oceans and borders, and generally know more about each other's lives than any generation of our ancestors ever did.

Still, we choose to forget.

Most times, it only looks like we are choosing to forget, when in fact, we are selectively choosing what to remember. Race, gender, nation, creed, even family; these neat categories make it easier for us to remember what we deem to be important to us.

Just as easily, still, we forget.

Somehow, it's easy to forget. It is certainly much easier to forget some people than others. Traditionally, some communities of people have traditionally fallen out of the mainstream line of sight over and over again. Sometimes, stigmas against certain groups help us, even make it acceptable, to forget them, their hopes and dreams forever voided by past life choices. Other times, we forget in order to avoid the pain and difficulty that remembering brings.

We even find it easy to forget those we love.

AFCOM is about remembering. The act of remembering is a display of force. It takes energy to pull someone--something-- from the depths of the "forgotten" into the realm of the "remembered." This energy is tangible; it is felt by those who remember as well as by those remembered, and ripples outwards to make others remember. The process of remembering is therapeutic, and it has a long-term effect of refocusing forgotten communities back into the consciousness of the public, where they need to be.

Remember with us.
